Skyline Head Light and Bulps

It's about time to look into another important part of our Nissan Skyline. The Head light and the bulps. I know this is essential and important area that all of you have to cross at some point of time as a Skyline owners. This is regard of a GTT nor GTR  or any version of skylines. We have to replace the bulps at the head light.

The standard headlight bulp for nissan skyline consists of Xenon for normal use and HIR1 for high beam.
Xenon bulp is called as D2R (Blacktop masking for reflector systems). The D2R bulps were originally made in Germany.

I would like to describe more about the GE 9011 high beam bulp. This bulp was originally designed by General Electric US. Nissan has adapted this into their Skyline range of vehicles. However GE has already discontinued this bulps due to flaw in the design. This was later replaced by Toshiba with improved design.

HIR1 GE9011

The HIR1 (9011) and HIR2 (9012) Halogen Infrared Reflective bulbs have micro-thin layers of electro-deposited coating on a specially-designed bulb. The coating reflects the filament's infrared (heat) back onto the filament, which results in a hotter filament that produces more light without increased power consumption, shorter bulb life, or extra heat production.

The manufacturers always advice that it is best to replace these bulps in pairs, because as they age, the colour of their light changes. Replacing only one bulp of a pair will cause the two headlamps to emit light of noticeably different colour.

The lifespan of the HIR1 bulp is approximately 320hours. Please feel free to drop me a mail if you need any further information regarding this part. I am signing off for the moment from Nissan Skyline ER34.blogspot.com
